Barça Dreams, the movie, which premiered last October in Spain, has awakened great interest in the international market. In just two months, Filmax International, the distributor, has closed an unprecedented number of rights contracts to exhibit the film in more than twenty different territories including Mexico and the rest of the Latin American countries, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Japan, Russia, Australia, Poland, the former Yugoslavia countries, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Like in Spain, in most of the countries Barça Dreams will be initially shown in cinemas although the main means of dissemination is through TV and Video On Demand (VOD). Not very often, a documentary film about a sports club has raised so much interest outside our country. In Spain, both Televisió de Catalunya and Televisión Española, the two broadcasting co-producers, will broadcast the film on free TV during the months of January and February and in March. The movie will already be available on DVD and Video on Demand.
Directed by the journalist and film-maker Jordi Llompart, BARÇA DREAMS is the most complete FC Barcelona documentary feature film ever produced. It offers a review of the most important facts and people who have contributed to forge the slogan “More than a club”. Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Gerard Piqué, are some of the participants in the film together with some former players and coaches like Johan Cruyff, Louis Van Gaal, Ronald Koeman, Gary Lineker, Carles Rexach, José Mari Bakero or Eric Abidal. Pau Gasol, the world basketball star, the historian Carles Santacana and the sports journalists Graham Hunter or Ramon Besa have also participated in the film.
The movie is the reflection of the passion, feelings and dreams of those who have forged the history of FC Barcelona. It also explains the evolution of the “total football” system initiated by Rinus Michels and Johan Cruyff in the 70s and which has reached the highest point with the recent generation of great players trained in La Masia, who have conquered the last four European Cups, among them the fifth Champions last June.
Barça Dreams is a real emotional trip to the soul of the Club founded by the passionate dreamer Joan Gamper over 100 years ago. It analyses the achievements of its main characters like Kubala, Cruyff, Ronaldinho or Messi, the battles with the eternal rival, Real Madrid, and the implementation of an unmistakable way of playing that has turned the club into one of the most admired clubs of the past years.
BARÇA DREAMS is a GEN IMAGE MEDIA production that counts with the participation of ENTROPY STUDIO, TVC, TVE, and the collaboration of FC Barcelona. FILMAX INTERNATIONAL is the international distributor.

BARÇA DREAMS has been produced over a period of two years, and it includes footage from games, interviews, visual effects and 3D animations. Apart form the images and the exclusive testimonies from the protagonists, the film also contains surprising unseen archive footage.
BARÇA DREAMS. THE TRUE HISTORY OF FC BARCELONA is a strong emotional journey through the soul of the club that dreamer and passionate Joan Gamper founded more than one hundred years ago. It focuses on the milestones achieved by players like Kubala, Cruyff, Ronaldinho and Messi. It also analyzes the eternal rivalry against Real Madrid and the implementation of an unmistakeable style. The movie rekindles the passion, dreams and ambition of a long list of players who have seeked to achieve glory in one of the most admired football clubs in the last decades.
According to the producers: “FC Barcelona deserved a documentary film like this one. It shows the whole world how unique its historical trajectory has been and it spreads its groundbreaking contribution to modern football”. According to the director and scriptwriter Jordi Llompart, “many Barça fans, especially the ones outside of Spain, will be gladly surprised when they discover many anecdotes and historical events which prove that FC Barcelona is much more than just a sport club”.
Jordi Llompart has a vast experience working in challenging documentary projects: in 2005, he produced and directed the only Spanish movie shot in large format IMAX®, ‘Mystery of the Nile’, which reached a worlwide audience of ten milion people and obtained numerous awards in the United States and Europe. In 2010 he premiered ‘Magic Journey to Africa’, a fiction film entirely shot in 3D for both IMAX® and conventional theaters. It was a beautiful poetic tale that received several awards for its visual effects and its technological innovation. He has also produced and directed a number of documentaries for television, like ‘The Vanishing Past’, ‘Nomads of the Human Condition’, ‘Journey to Arabia’ and ‘The End of the Big Cats’. Before being a film maker, Llompart directed and hosted different news programs for TVC (Catalan Television).

On May the 19th, the film ‘Barça Dreams’ appeared for the first time in media. The newspaper El País mentioned Jordi Llompart’s documentary without revealing anything about the content yet.
[…] images from ‘Barça Dreams’, the documentary by Jordi Llompart about F. C. Barcelona, are shown. “There are no immediate sales, but you make contact with people and later you deal calmly on the way back”, it’s said from Latido. Good atmosphere, slow business.”
Having finished the editing, it’s time to record the final voice-over of the movie. It will lead the audience through the history of FC Barcelona and the dreams of some of its main characters. Jordi Llompart (Catalan), Nacho Béjar (Spanish) and Alex Warner (English) will link with their voices interviews, dream images and spectacular and memorable moments of this centenary football club.
The shooting of the day has been quite magical. The soap bubbles expert Pep Bou offered an exclusive show for the movie in the set number 4 of Service Vision. The resulting images suggest the intangible matter of the dreams and the volatility of the success.
Several images were projected on a huge soap screen whenever the short-lived nature of the soap gave us a chance. The act was replicated in a much more fanciful screen: a smoke-filled bubble that Pep Bou held in the middle of a soap curtain. The show became more human when the expert surrounded the stuntmen for Messi and Xavi with a big bubble.
Wakefulness or dream, possible or impossible, victory or defeat… Two opposite poles slightly separated by a sparkling thin soap layer that ends up bursting and mixing everything.
During four days, the shooting crew is going to work on the set 3 at Mediapro building. Located at 22@ –the technological district of Barcelona–, it offers 200 squared meters of usable space and a huge green screen. Some of the interviewees that are going to pass are the historian Carles Santacana; the journalist Ramon Besa; the physiotherapist Àngel Mur; the FCB associate number one, Jaume Descals; former players, such as Salvador Sadurní, José Antonio Zaldúa, Ferran Olivella or José María Bakero; and former players that have also worked as trainers or coaches, such as Laureano Ruiz, Joaquim Rifé or Charly Rexach.
